In this theme we practise the art of looking.
What do we mean by looking? Not just looking, but seeing; not just seeing, but thinking; and not just thinking, but talking.
Just as important as making art yourself, is the process of experiencing art created by someone else. Part of experiencing art involves, of course, looking – but looking in a particular way: seeing into the work, thinking deeply about it, and then sharing these thoughts with others. you will discover that this exchange of ideas leads to even further ideas.
It may seem surprising that we need to “practise” looking: We look all the time. But as you become more and more visually literate, you will see what this really means. we will spend time looking at, reacting and responding to both artworks and the images we see in the world around us – in our our homes, in public buildings, in the media, in the streets, on walls and on billboards.
