Springboards

Rooms

We will start by looking at our most immediate and most intimate environments – our own rooms. Let’s think about how these are designed and created.

Our spaces, ourselves

We have said before that we express ourselves through the way we adorn ourselves, clothe our bodies, collect or make objects. But our personalities also find expression in the way we create spaces to live in. The photographs of rooms on these pages will remind us of how much our spaces reflect who we are.

Interiors

What information can you glean from examining these rooms? Look at each image and use these questions to start a discussion:

What do you think people do in this room?

What does this room tell us about its particular owner, or inhabitant? Describe him or her.

What gives you clues about the purpose of the room?

Do you know any rooms that are similar to this one?

If there was music playing in the room, what kind would it be?

Now that you have looked at all the images, which room do you think you would feel most at home in? And which one do you like most?

Can you think of words to describe the style of the room?
